About the Work

Clare Celeste brings thousands of hand cut images of flora and fauna together into lush and intricate compositions. Blooming with color, buzzing with insects, and brimming with foliage, the works are visually arresting and captivating.

The images come from natural history archives and most are pre-1900. Newer images are hand painted, photographed, or sourced from creative commons. For all tactile commissions, Clare Celeste’s images are printed on recycled 300 gram acid-free paper and hand cut.

Clare Celeste’s work is intricate and precise. The otherworldly and ethereal nature of the work is achieved through her attention to detail and craftsmanship.

“Clare’s work is extremely beautiful, detailed and mesmerizing. It has been a pleasure to be able to collaborate with her in the design of four different wine labels for a small winery in Spain. The creative process and communication has been great from the beginning to the end.”
